Our Statement on Virtual Learning in Fall 2021
and Welcome back to School!
Español
Dear Families,
First, we wish that this communication finds you and your loved ones safe and well during these challenging times.
Second, we wish to extend a warm “Welcome Back To School” to all our students and families. We have missed you and we are excited about the prospects of beginning this school year through remote learning. Our school year begins on September 15th and your child's learning schedule has moved to remote learning for quarter 1. Kiley staff have begun the process of planning out quarter 1 and have been actively engaged in professional development centered around remote learning.
Third, M. Marcus Kiley Middle School has been restructured to include grades 7 and 8 exclusively. We have added some new staff members to our veteran group of teachers. Many have worked collaboratively throughout the summer to create instructional opportunities for our students. Our staff has worked hard to develop a new plan that will have your child begin this school year strong and to get them ready to begin quarter 1 of our school year remotely.
We want to share with you terms you may not be familiar with and provide you with some important information about the start of our remote learning, schedule, attendance and grading. Two important key terms for remote learning are Synchronous and Asynchronous Learning.
Synchronous Learning is live, student-to-student interaction, collaborative assignments/projects, teacher feedback and needed supports.
Asynchronous Learning can be independent student learning to include lessons that are taught at a different time, with on-line activities, emails, blogs/chats, and may be prerecorded audio/video instructions.
Synchronous and Asynchronous Learning requires that remote learning programs include regular, two-way communication between students, educators, and families to ensure students and families have meaningful opportunities to connect regularly with staff.
Students must have regular, consistent opportunities to access synchronous and asynchronous instruction, student-to-student interaction, collaborative assignments/projects, teacher feedback, and other needed supports. These are critical for student academic growth and meaningful student and family
engagement.
We also would like to take this opportunity to announce that a new Kiley 7/8 Face Book page and Kiley 7/8 school website is being developed and “under construction” – stay tuned!
Thank you.
